CEPICAFE: cocoa from Peru

The CEPICAFE cooperative was created in 1995 to help producers commercialise their crops better. From the onset, the coffee cooperative targeted fair trade markets. The benefits from its Fairtradelabel improved the living and working conditions of the growers and made it possible to plant other crops, like cocoa.

The old cocoavariety know as the “criollo porcelana” that was grown traditionally in this area and that has mild and refined taste was discovered by chocolate makers worldwide. The cooperative initiated a project that, with the support of TDC, aims at sustainably positioning the cocoa producers on these market niches and that offer strong added value. The best cocoa is in the hand of the greatest chocolate makers. CEPICAFE alreay won several prizes.
