Cumbre del Sajama: Bolivian fair trade gold

  

Worlwide, about 15 million people are working in artisanal gold-mining organizations where the work conditions are generally appalling  : accident , poisoning, child exploitation... The   Alliance for Responsable Mining and Fairtrade labbeling Organization (FLO) have reached  the “ Fairtrade and Fairmined Gold”, a label for fair gold.

The mining cooperative of Cotapata in Bolivia produced the first gold ingot in January 2011.This certification is the result of a project, starting 2009, that is implemented by Cumbre del Sajama, a Bolivian organisation that has helped mining communities since 1997, and financed by the Trade for Development Centre (TDC) of the Belgian development agency.
